Harry Abend

Venezuelan sculptor, was born in 1937 in Jarosław, Poland and at age 11, in 1948 he moved to Venezuela, with his parents and his brother. Enter the Moral and Lights College and then the Andrés Bello High School in Caracas. Bachelor's degree, he studies architecture at the Central University of Venezuela while he begins his sculptural work. In 1963, at the age of 26, he was awarded the National Sculpture Prize for the work Forma 1961, in the XXIV Annual Official Exhibition of Venezuelan Art, held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Caracas. In 1964 he appeared among those attending the workshop that the English sculptor Kenneth Armitage taught at the Cristóbal Rojas School of Plastic Arts. In the seventies, interested in serial art, he made reliefs integrated into the architecture with concrete walls in clean work. It executes large-scale architectural elements (doors, bars, walls, ceilings and facades) of important buildings such as the Teresa Carreño Theater, synagogues such as the Israelite Union of Caracas, and the design and execution of the perimeter fence of the Supreme Court of Justice in Venezuela, your country of residence. It addresses the theme of organic wood sculpture. He is also an engraver, cartoonist and graphist. He was awarded the Order of Francisco de Miranda in First Class, in 1990. He was the artist honored at the 2009 Ibero-American Art Fair. Abend is recognized as one of the Venezuelan Contemporary Masters of more career and career of the last fifty years.
