Francisco Narváez
Venezuelan plastic artist, is one of the most important sculptors of his country, began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Caracas. Then he would start working with the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva, who used to ask the Neo-Spartan sculptor for the architectural works he undertook. He traveled to New York City in order to decorate the flag of Venezuela at the World Fair held in the American metropolis. He would make sculptural pieces of monumental dimensions; one of them, Great Volume, was made for the Amuay Refining Complex, and the second, one of the last pieces that would come to be done, the Harmony of Volumes and Space, for the Caracas Metro, located in Francisco Narváez Square a The exit of the La Hoyada Metro Station. Narváez never imitated foreign models, but instead emphasized the use of the country's own materials; This makes his sculpture a deeply Venezuelan artistic fact, integrator of the cultures that intermingle in the country, and with a great sense of roots. Some awards and recognitions are: Handicraft Exhibition Prize of the Sucre State, for the play "Miniature Furniture Game"; He receives the "President of the Republic of Venezuela Award", created by General Eliazar López Contreras; National Sculpture Prize at the I Official Venezuelan Art Salon; "John Boulton" Prize at the III Official Venezuelan Art Salon; National Painting Prize at the IX Official Salon of Venezuelan Art; Appointed Director of the School of Plastic and Applied Arts of Caracas; Participates as a representative of Venezuela in the "XXVII Venice Biennial"; Decorated with "The Order of the Liberator in Knight Grade"; Decorated with the "Francisco de Miranda Order" in First Class; Participant in the II International Contemporary Art Encounters, in Paris, as the representative of Venezuela, Museum of Contemporary Art "Francisco Narváez", in Porlamar, inaugurated in his honor Narváez donated approximately 60 of his sculptures and paintings to populate the museum.
