François Jouffroy

François Jouffroy was a French sculptor born in 1806, he attended the local drawing school in Dijon, France, before his admission to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1824. Later as a teacher at the École des Beaux-Arts, He had great influence on some famous artists, among them: Adrien Étienne Gaudez, Alexandre Falguière, Antonin Mercié, António Soares dos Reis, Auguste Paris, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Charles Georges Ferville-Suan, Edmond Desca, Gustave Deloye, Jules Blanchard, Léopold Morice, Louis-Ernest Barrias, Nicanor Plaza Salinas, Olin Levi Warner, René de Saint-Marceaux, Théodore Rivière, Pierre Travaux. In 1832 he won the Prix de Rome. His best known work is the sculpture "Girl Entrusting Her Secret to Venus" (1839), which can currently be seen in the Louvre Museum. He died in Laval, Mayenne, in 1882.
